Robinson + Cole - UI and Brand Identity Design

Context

Founded in 1845, Robinson+Cole is a law firm with a long tradition of developing strong ties with industry leaders and with the communities they serve. They know how to connect the right people to the right problems, and are constantly evolving to keep pace with an ever changing legal landscape.

Challenge

From the initial logo development through to the final details of the website design, tradition, innovation, and connection were the themes at the heart of this re-brand and were important touch points for the client and throughout our design process.

Logo Design

The primary logo was designed to reflect both experience and connection. The bold typographic logo evokes a feeling of authority and professionalism. The colorful plus sign brings a bit of levity to the brand and also highlights the importance of connection within the firm.

The hexagon graphic in the secondary mark is a primary component of the new brand. It is used as a brand element to underscore the vital connections the firm has with their clients. Inspiration for the graphic came from the hexagon patterns seen in bee hive honeycombs. These close knit patterns speak to strong ties that can't easily be broken.

Website Design

The website needed to be a strong extension of the brand. It needed to highlight the unique qualities of the firm and make a distinctive mark that would leave a lasting impression on new and old clients alike.

Each section of the website was assigned a different brand color and a subtle hexagon pattern was used throughout the site.

Image Grid

With 14 practice areas and 21 industries served, Robinson+Cole needed a highly structured system to highlight the areas and industries they serve. This image grid was designed to allow users to easily identity and explore each practice area or industry, users can quickly scan through the options while the grid also translates well on mobile devices.

The brand identity system is flexible, color and graphics can be chosen to compliment a variety of different media.

Brand Colours

Colour is a key component of the Robinson+Cole brand identity system. To keep the brand grounded the primary and secondary colour palettes are darker with cooler undertones. These colours are more conservative and traditional, whereas the accent colors were added to highlight innovation, passion and vitality. The accent colours are never displayed all together, but are used individually along with the primary color (blue).
