WorkBC - Blueprint Builder, UI/UX

Context

British Columbia’s Ministry of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training created WorkBC to help users navigate B.C.’s labour market. One of their special initiatives is a tool called Blueprint Builder, a fantastic resource for students and working professionals who are entering the job market or are looking to switch careers. With Blueprint Builder users can explore a vast array of career, education and job search resources and then add those resources to create a personalized career plan.

Challenge

After the initial website launch, user testing revealed lots of confusion around the process of building a blueprint. Users didn't understand what a Blueprint was let alone how to build one. Their entry into the tool was a log in page with very little context or description of the Blueprint Builder process.

Process

To start to address this issue we introduced a Blueprint Builder homepage that would lay the foundation for the rest of the experience and also reorganizated sections of the site to highlight the overall purpose and benefits of creating a personalized career plan.

Deliverables

  • Heuristic Evaluation
  • Visual design audit and update of the Blueprint brand
  • Wireframes (rough sketches)
  • Mockups
  • Prototype for user testing
